What Color is Your Joy?

Occasionally, someone will ask me what my art is about and I usually say,

”About two thousand bucks.”

Kidding. Partially.

But seriously, it is an interesting question when you sit down to think about it. Why does anyone make art of any kind? Who is it for? What is it for? And does it really matter anyway? And the answers are 1. If it’s in you, you don’t really have a choice. 2. It’s for me and anyone else who cares to play. 3. It’s to open a new window and see or feel something that wasn’t there before. 4. Yes, it matters.

So, I got to thinking, what do I want to see right now? What am I looking for? And what makes me happy to share? Color. I want bright, positive, luxurious beautiful color. Color energizes. Color is delicious. Color is happy-making. People. Faces, figures, sensuous curves, sharp angels. Unique, enticing, sexy.

Confidence. Bold, graphic shapes stripped down to their essence. Clarity, Impact, energy with an edge.

Joy. Pure and simple.

I got to work, which didn’t really feel like work at all, and created a series of collaged pieces with these characteristics. The series is called What Color is Your Joy? and will be available on my site as framed prints. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did making them.
