Quietly Beautiful

Beautifully quiet.

We went away, we escaped from the exhaustion of moving, from the unpacking of endless boxes, from our non-stop life of the last few months, but mostly from the underlying sadness and mind-numbing pain of the hypocritical political circus surrounding us. Sometimes you just have to get off the carousel, slow your course, turn off the rinkytink music and noise, and reset.

So, we came to Lake Como, a place we’d never been before, and now I totally understand the big deal. It’s beautiful here, from every angle, and the pace is decidedly different, with ample time for a stroll or a nap or a wonderful meal or a glass of wine...or nothing at all.

Today is a gray, rainy day with low hanging clouds that gently embrace the mountains, mountains that come and go in the fog. It’s a calm day, cashmere day, a reading-in-your-bathrobe day, a day to just be appreciative of all the goodness life can offer...when people don’t screw it up.

We went away, far away. And we’re the better for it.

“Should the guide I choose be nothing better than a wandering cloud, I cannot miss my way.”

– William Wordsworth
