I have a lovely sister.
She’s kind of a riot and all sorts of original. Everyone should have one – I’ve mentioned that before – but she’s mine. Lucky, lucky me.
Sometime this year, she let me know that we were going to have daily check-in calls because A. we’re old, B. we love each other and C. we’re hysterical...or we like to think so. And laughter is always a good idea...like Paris...or french fries. Our phone conversations are pretty much a stand-up routine based in reality, veering into rim shot territory, bouncing off of didn’t-see-that-coming and culminating in the laugh. The family laugh. The throw-your-head-back-take-a-deep-breath-and let-it-rip laugh. We all inherited it from our mother. Family dinners in our growing up home could have been recorded as audience response for sit coms – yet another missed opportunity – but be that as it may (and what does that phrase mean, anyway?), we love a good laugh. It’s like moisturizer for the soul.
Humor is an active sport. Wit is a mental exercise. Being funny and finding the joy are time very well spent and kind of a balanced workout. So, if you can’t see the funny on your own, find yourself a workout partner and learn to set ‘em up and knock ‘em down. Believe me, you’ll be all the better for it.
It’s been said that if you laugh every day, you could add 8 years to your life. Based on that, a friend of mine told me once, my sister and I were never gonna die. Funny that. And obviously not true, but I do believe the journey will be much more enjoyable and humor will be found! Always.
A day without laughter is a day wasted.”
