Old as the hills

When I was in kindergarten, and our teacher asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up, apparently I said I wanted to be an artist living in New York. Funny that.
When I was in sixth grade, our teacher asked the class to write a page describing their life when they were 20 years older. My parents kept the paper. It seems I wrote that I would be an artist and an Art Director in advertising, living in an apartment in New York, and a farm house in Bucks County. Go figure.
A few years ago, I said I wanted to teach again, and don’t ya know that a friend of mine introduced me to people that helped make that happen.
And now, this year, the Muse and I were saying it would be nice to do the Artist in Residence thing on a luxury cruise line, and lo and behold, we’re preparing to take off in a few weeks to very wonderful destinations on board a very lux ship, where we’ll be heading up the Artist Studio, teaching the clientele how to paint.
Call it manifesting, or wishing on a star, or working your butt off for many years, building a base on which you can create your dreams. Whatever the case may be, I’m thinking about that a lot right now because it’s birthday season and today I turn really, really old.
But mentally I’m still totally immature, and thanks to my wonderful circle of remarkable friends and family who entertain my eccentricities and always have, I don’t feel like I really get older. I just accumulate more miles.
My point I suppose, is this – if you want something, don’t just whisper it to yourself in the dark of night. Say it out loud! You never know who’s listening. And write it down! Somehow, it makes it real.
And now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got candles to blow out, a martini to be savored, and luggage to pack. Getting older doesn’t have to suck...just sayin’.
“Aging is an extraordinary process where you become the person you always should have been.”
— David Bowie

I want to take your art class!! I need to say that out loud and write it down!
My wife and I took your painting class on the Oceania Cruise Line while on the Mediterranean and we enjoyed ourselves. I'm glad you're back doing the Artist in Residence. We still have the paintings.
