What Would Nicole Kidman Do?

Some people seem to work all the time.

I mean, ALL THE TIME. A body in motion tends to stay in motion, and all that.

I think that’s why some people never seem to age. They never leave your line of vision. They’re always an active presence. So, they age gradually, gracefully, and you never seem to notice. Like Meryl Streep. Like Rob Lowe. Like Jennifer Aniston. Like Sanjay Gupta!

And doesn’t that explain the career of Nicole Kidman? Love her or hate her, and that would just be mean, by the way, she’s always on the horizon and always doing something unexpected. And always looking strangely amazing while doing it. If you want to feel utterly unproductive and somewhat predictable, google her and read the resumé. The range is kind of mind blowing.

When Opportunity comes knocking, when they want you, whoever they are, choose if you want to answer. No wrong answers, by the way. But, if you say “no” and then opportunity doesn’t come knocking again for a while, don’t blame opportunity. It didn’t know you had a schedule.

See, that’s how opportunity works. It just shows up, unannounced and either you’re ready for it or you’re not. No wrong answers. But all answers have consequences.

Which brings us back to Nicole Kidman...who said, “Enough” to Tom Cruise, who said, “I’m more than pretty” to the producers of The Hours, who said, “Of course I can sing” to Moulin Rouge, who said, “I’ll go there” to Big Little Lies, who said, “Yes” to Keith Urban, the only man as pretty as she is. Who consistently says, “Let’s do it,” and as a result, lives her fullest life and if anybody else doesn’t like it, well, too bad.

She grows and stretches and she’s always there – wonderfully unique, eerily beautiful, strangely ageless, unforgettable. I update my role models as often as some people update their iPhones, and this year the new arrival in the role model category is Nicole Kidman.

Who makes YOU think, “Why not just do it? What are you waiting for”

Even from a very early age, I knew I didn’t want to miss out on anything life had to offer just because it might be considered dangerous.
